Hissing Cockroaches and Carnivorous Plants!

Help me give my students 3 live giant hissing Madagascar cockroaches and a collection of carnivorous plants.

My Students

Middle school can be tough. Socially, emotionally, and academically, there can be lots of challenges for students in the early teen years. My students are learning English and adapting to a new culture while navigating these difficult years.

My English language learner students are resilient, resourceful, and caring young teens.

My students have been learning a new language and new technology skills at the same time; bit by bit, we've begun developing a classroom community together. We are really looking forward to spending time face-to-face in the coming year.

My Project

I am requesting a trio of live Madagascar hissing cockroaches to set up in a terrarium in our classroom. These insects are nothing like the roaches that skitter across a kitchen floor. They are lovely to look at and interesting to observe, and having them in our classroom will inspire more students to reach for books from our collection of books related to insects.

Carnivorous plants are just so interesting to see and learn about!

Having Venus flytraps and pitcher plants in our classroom will bring our carnivorous plant lessons to life, and they will easily persuade students to read more about these remarkable North Carolina natives.
