Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It is Hispanic Heritage Month, and my class is excited! This year, we have a section of our room designated for Hispanic Heritage Month books, art, and activities, and my students love to go there. Every day we discuss the importance of culture and celebrating Hispanic people in our community and world. I want to inspire my students (especially the many Hispanic students in my class) to feel proud of where they come from, understand the struggles of those before them, and strive to contribute to the community in a positive way. To do this, I am asking for a variety of books about notable Hispanic people who have made a difference in their lives and in the world. This includes books such as, "What Can You Do With a Paleta?" and "Queen of Tejano Music: Selena". Having books about Hispanic people, written by Hispanic people for my students to read is a great way for them to be inspired to become authors themselves someday. It is a great way for them to read and relate to people like themselves. Reading these books will be great for building reading skills and having class discussions about the importance of celebrating culture and change. I can't wait to introduce these books to my students. They will be a great addition to our Hispanic Heritage Month library.
