This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year I will be teaching second grade (with about twenty-eight students) at a Title One school in the Bronx, New York. This is my first year teaching second grade and I am super excited! The majority of my students come from economically-disadvantaged households. The students in my class have a wide range of learning styles, interests, strengths and weaknesses, and backgrounds. Many of my students are English Language Learners from low income households. However, they are ready to learn and dedicated to doing well! I see my classroom as a safe community. We all work together and support one another.
Despite their many unique qualities, one thing that my students have in common is a strong desire to learn that is sometimes hindered by a lack of resources.
Although every day, they are faced with many challenges both in and out of their homes, they come to school eager to learn. My students are creative, funny, hardworking and determined to do their best! These kids face many difficulties including taking responsibilities beyond their ages; yet, when they arrive to school, they are just like any kids, filled with a passion to learn more about the world.
My Project
I would love to have materials to get the year started. This includes markers, folders, pencils, crayons, glue, and so much more! Again, since my families are of low income, I do not feel comfortable asking for donations. However, I do want a classroom with basic materials for everyday lessons.
These materials will help to create a solid base of supplies for our classroom and will ensure that all students have the supplies they need to succeed.
During whole group lessons, we will use the easel paper which will then be hung on the wall as a reference!
