Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is made up of 20 amazing learners. They come to class ready to learn despite the obstacles they face prior to stepping foot in the classroom. We are a Title I school, and almost all of my students are English Language Learners. My students love coming to school because I make learning fun. My students work hard each and every day. Unfortunately, they need supplies that I can’t provide on my own. This includes reading and math centers to differentiate instruction.
My Project
Diane Ackerman said, "Play is our brain's favorite way of learning."
During centers, my students enjoy rotating to different centers.
I try to make my rotations as engaging as possible. When students are in centers, they need games that are fun, meaningful, and align with the standards.
The VersaTiles Reading Kit provides students with hands-on problem solving. VersaTiles can be used individually, in a small group, or by the whole class.
The VersaTiles kit comes with 6 book titles that focus on Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension Skills. It also comes with answer cases which are used by the students to self-check their answers.
When students are finished with the activity they can check their answers by simply closing the answer case and flipping it over. When they open it there will be a pattern that will show up. If it matches the pattern on the bottom of the page they have received a perfect score.
This VersaTiles kit will benefit my students all year long. I love that I can use it to quickly assess what my students know and don't know.
The VersaTiles will give me the opportunity to let each student work on the skill that they are struggling with individually or in a small group. It will also help challenge students who are currently above grade level.
I have also requested a large classroom clock and part-whole addition and subtraction cards. This will be used when we start our telling time and missing number unit!
