These students come to English Language Arts to partake in differentiated instruction and small group activities to help solidify knowledge and concepts in regards to fiction and non-fiction literature. Students in my classroom frequently fall under the categories of ESE (special education), ESOL (English as a second language, and EBD (emotional behavior disorders).
While atypical, these students have large hearts and wide-open minds.
Delivering instruction is not always a simple task and usually requires extensive research and innovation. Despite hardships students face outside of class, like low-income households, homelessness, deceased or absent parents, and other setbacks, they still manage to enter the classroom with positivity and light.
The Health Information Project has the ability to bring cultures, ideas and humans of all ages and genders together.
Through the Health Information Project (HIP), I plan to implement a Headquarters to better service our club and spread the word of our mental/physical health!
I plan to use these projectors to assist in the case that our presentations are unable to be held due to technical difficulties. These projectors are battery powered and so our club members will never have to worry about a teaching gone wrong again. My students will use the Echo dot to transport sound in substitution of a speaker in the case that our presentations are ever interrupted by technical difficulties. These two items will also be used during our practice meetings, where snacks are always welcome -- and so we'd love to have an electric kettle to brew tea as a reward for our hard work.
The HIP club advocates for mental and emotional health, anti-drugs, minorities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community among other pivotal topics and movements. We also spotlight the resilient and powerful communities that they live in to create a completely immersive club experience. Through doing this, key social and emotional issues will be highlighted, discussed, and showcased for our club members to better educate our community and peer students. As the HIP club frequently discusses mental and emotional health, this will be a great new tool to take our teachings out of the classroom and have a global outreach.
