Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My scholars come from the inner city and are economically
disadvantaged.
We are victims of Hurricane Harvey still struggling. Many of my young students lost everything due to the catastrophic floods. They have been displaced and are living in shelters, with friends, or with family, so emotionally they are stressed. What makes my classroom so special is that many of my scholars this is their second year of English. They are transitioning to the English language.
I want my scholars to love the English language, so I want their transition to continue to be smooth. Therefore, by the end of the school year, I hope they master the English language and have a change of heart about reading and the English language so that they embrace it rather than fight it.
My Project
My scholars need highlighters and glue sticks for their interactive reading journals. The journals serve as a learning tool as they are gaining daily knowledge. They will use the glue sticks to glue foldables, graphs, charts, and notes. The highlighters will be use to highlight important notes, words, texts, clues, or any text features.
My scholars will also use it during their test to highlight important text, phrases, or words so it may aid in their comprehension.
These learning tools will help them academically where they will gain confidence which will translate to success in the classroom. They would also use it in their other content classes too.
