I am a kindergarten teacher in an urban school in Indiana.
My school is made up of many different types of students. Our school community includes students living in poverty, students with special needs, and students who are learning English as a new language. Our goal is to give students new experiences and to foster a love of learning.
My Project
iPads, coding software, and puzzles will lead students to success in problem solving, persevering, and precision. Students learn best with hands-on activities and lessons based on their interests. My students will use iPads, coding software, and puzzles resources during independent work time to extend what has been taught in class and to explore based on their interests.
The materials that I am requesting will help my learners develop skills for the future.
The Coding Awbie application will allow my students to use hands on coding blocks to move a character on an iPad and to complete different objectives. Students will also be able to explore the application and learn the patterns related to coding. The Words application will allow my students to use manipulatives to practice phonics and acquire vocabulary. The Numbers application will allow users to learn how numbers go together and can be taken apart. The Tangram application will allow for problem solving and spacial reasoning practice. Students will work together within these apps and share their knowledge with each other.
With these materials, kindergartners will be able to see themselves as problem solvers, engineers, and so much more! Having these materials readily available will make a huge difference in the lives of my young learners and allow them to have new and technological ways to extend their learning. These materials will help my students develop in areas related to math, science, technology, and engineering, as well as reading and writing.
