Reading is an everyday struggle for many students. Game systems are an everyday activity for many students. Let's combine the two to make learning interactive and fun!
We are a high poverty school in the Midwest.
My students have behavioral and academic challenges that prevent them from being in a conventional classroom setting. They have been placed in a Learning Lab classroom. We focus not only on academic achievement but also social skills.
My Project
My students need one iPad mini, protective case, and headphones. Our students face daily struggles and reading and math are just a couple of those struggles. Most of my students read at least two grade levels behind and are performing two or more grade levels behind in math. By the time they reach 5th grade, they are ready to give up. BUT, I am not! We use Raz-Kids to help low level readers through technology. They love to record their own reading. It is a huge motivator for them. For math, my students enjoy practicing their math skills using FrontRow and a fluency program which requires technology. These iPads will enable students to listen, read, record their own reading daily, and practice their math skills. I use Daily 5 as guide or organizational tool for reading. The iPads are a fun, interactive station for students to practice skills. The cases will keep them safe from breaks and falls. The headphone will help them focus and block out distractions.
iPads are just one piece of technology that engages students.
My students are fully engaged when on the iPad. Please help my students find the love of reading and math through technology with iPad minis.
