I am a mathematics teacher in the Algebra I content area at a Title I urban high school. Over 80% of the students attending my school receive free or reduced payment lunch. Most of my students are underrepresented and do not have the highest self confidence. As their greatest advocate, I have to motivate them to be everything I believe they can be in the learning environment we are currently placed in.
This motivation sometimes include me providing the essential tools they need to perform.
My students will do everything in their power to be successful, and I want to help as best I can.
My Project
In my class setting, I use Differentiated Learning (DL). Such an environment entail students alternating between using the computer for practice, as well as practicing using paper-pencil. This involves dividing the class into two groups, one group on computers, while I work one-on-one with the other half.
Currently, we are in need of 5 devices to make DL run as smooth as possible.
My students also need to practice on the computer to prepare them for taking the Algebra 1 End-of-Course ( EOC ) via the computer at the end of the school year.
I am being proactive in requesting these laptops so none of my students will be at a disadvantage when it really matters the most.
Please help make this possible so my students can practice during the year, which will give them a better chance at success when they take the EOC in May 2022.
