My Students

My students come from several small communities in rural Utah. We sometimes joke that the nearest Wal-Mart is 50 miles away.

Most of the students come from families that are blue collar workers and farmers.

With this background, the students are hard working and eager to learn. Unfortunately, with that, more than half of our students are from low-income households. However, they do not let that define them.

These students are focused young people. Many strive for academic excellence in all their courses of study and simply need the opportunity to succeed.

My Project

With only one in five students getting enough physical activity, it is imperative that we get kids moving. There are many studies that show the health benefits of physical activity and the harmful effects of not getting enough physical activity.

Many students do not understand what physical activity really includes and these pedometers would help with their understanding.

Some believe that just moving is considered physical activity and while that is better than doing nothing, it's not quite the case.

Students using these pedometers will not only be able to track their steps, but activity time and their moderate to vigorous physical activity as well.
