This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year I am reopening the school library for the Fremont High School Tigers. While surveying students about what kind of books they want, I have heard requests for books that talk about mental health, various cultures, ethnic studies, history, social media, and so on.

Not only do the books in this list reflect student wishes, but there is also an inclusion of memoirs and autobiographies that can introduce students to varying lived experiences and remind them that they are not alone in some of life's challenges.

The opportunities for learning and connection that books provide are life-changing and the students of Fremont High School, who have lacked access to a campus library for years, deserve materials that embrace them and expand their understanding of the world.

By funding this project, you will make access to non-fiction books a reality for Fremont High School students. These books can be read for pleasure, applied to academic coursework, and act as a core text for classroom curriculum. Most importantly, students who see their experiences mirrored in a book can be shown that it is possible to overcome life's obstacles.
