Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When we think math, especially in high school years, we think of doing repetitive worksheets or solving questions from textbooks. However, with these materials, my students will have concrete examples and collaborative activities which will enable them to make real connections between the world around them and math.
For example, with the algebra tiles, students will see how factoring is finding the dimensions of a rectangle.
With cardstock/laminants, studnets will have puzzle pieces to practice polynomial division. Other materials such as measuring tapes, rubber bands, and popsicle sticks, will be used to perform class experiments to collect our own data and find values such as standard deviation for our statistics unit. This makes math a lot more personal, real, and fun for my students than using examples off textbooks.
As I prepare for next semester's curriculum, your help in procuring these materials will benefit all of my students in gaining a deeper understanding in math. Thank you so much for your consideration!
