Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our high school Environmental Club is trying to make a big difference in the world through projects at our school. During a typical lunch, many pounds of food waste are thrown away at our campus that can be composted for use in our school garden.
With new gardening gloves, compost bin, and compost starter, our students will be able to turn our lunch food waste into valuable soil for our native plant and pollinator garden.
In addition to improving the soil quality of our urban garden, composting will reduce our amount of wasted food as well as reduce the greenhouse gases released by discarded food.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
