Due to the similarities between the sheep and human brain, a sheep brain dissection can be an extremely positive learning experience. These sheep brains have some important structures that are important for future biologists to see and dissect such as: pituitary and hypothalamus glands, protective dura mater tissue, distinct regions such as the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brain stem. The lessons that students get from this lesson include lab planning, recording results, identifying anatomical structures, and completing a lab report. Additionally, many students feel a sense of personal growth in successfully completing an activity about which they may have felt some initial squeamish reservations!
