Headphones are used in my classroom everyday as students have to complete Lexia, an online reading platform, each day. Lexia is a reading program that is differentiated, so it helps students learn and practice reading skills that each of them needs. Students can practice reading skills from Kindergarten all the way through eighth grade. I have many multi-lingual learners in my classes and using this online platform helps them grow their skills in an amazing way as the program is able to teach and have them practice skills that otherwise, would not be taught in a typical 5th grade classroom.
Having access to high quality headphones would allow for students to focus on their work, listen carefully, and actually listen and learn from the lessons they are completing.
Right now, students have to complete Lexia with the volume on their computer playing out loud, which makes it difficult to hear and leads to a noisy and distracting classroom.
My students are incredibly bright and look forward to "leveling up" on this platform as they learn and grow from it. Our class comes together as a community to celebrate each student individually when they meet their weekly goal and level up. Giving students a leg up with high quality headphones will allow for students to be celebrated more frequently!
Our students here at our title one school, are resilient and accepting of all. The three of my classes are inclusion classrooms, meaning I have regular education, special education, Multi Lingual Lerner, and foundational level students in each of my classes. Students here know that we have something to learn from ALL students.
