High Interest Texts for Reluctant Readers

My students need high interest low readability books! I plan to read Holes as a whole class interactive read aloud! The other titles will be used for independent reading and partner reading.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative, inquisitive, and full of life. Everyday we start our day with our morning pledge, "I believe in myself and my ability to respectful, responsible, safe and kind. I celebrate my intelligence and my culture. I pledge this day to value knowledge over ignorance and choose peace over violence and to take care of myself, our school and earth.

Ours is a Title I school in the Mission district of San Francisco.

Many of my students have recent immigrants or families are recent immigrants from Central and South America. All of my students are focused on the goal of attending college!

My Project

Students will enjoy reading Holes as a whole class interactive read aloud. Together we will discuss character traits and setting. Students will have access to a text that is slightly above their read level! Reading Holes together will build classroom community!

I am also requesting some high interest low reading level books whcih will support the needs of struggling readers and readers who are new to reading in English!

Students will read these books during independent reading time and during partner reading! With new, engaging books students will become more proficient in their reading and writing. During partner reading 4th grade students read to kinder students so that they can interact with higher level texts.
