This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school serves some of the highest need students from grades pre-k through 6 in the city of Worcester, MA. The majority of our students are second language acquisition students and our full student population receives free breakfast and lunch services with many students living below the poverty line. We are made up of a group of hardworking and diverse learners who inspire and touch the lives of all of the teachers they work with.

My Project

The fourth grade team is looking to gather new grade level children's literature to update our classroom libraries. The school is made up of a diverse group of learners, many of whom are reading far below grade level. With interruptions in education brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have worked hard to get appropriately leveled books into the hands of all of our students.

Most of our books have been used for several years are in need of newly updated children's texts that we can use to continue to foster a love of reading in our fourth graders.

This year as a fourth grade team, we have prioritized independent reading daily in order to expose children to a number of stories and increase their reading confidence.

Our students come from a variety of backgrounds. The books we have selected are not only those leveled specifically for them to feel success but are also multicultural choices. These text choices will provide students with mirrors and windows into the world around them.
