This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I live in a small town with low socio-economic needs. Most of our students are lacking in parental support when it comes to being able to work with them at home on their school work to reinforce what’s being taught in school. I desire to develop a unique bond with my students in that we create a fun, engaging learning experience daily. I allow them to collaborate together in small and whole group instruction, when completing various comprehension activities, as well as complete independent assignments. I have a range of students on different reading levels, so having the best, updated, fun and engaging materials, is very important in my endeavor to teach and reach my students.
My Project
These activities will make a huge difference in my small group instruction. My students need a variety of high-interest reading activities at various levels. I’m constantly seeking to find engaging activities that will spark their interest, and make them develop a love of learning. When my students are excited to come to my group during small group instruction, it lets me know that they love the engaging activities I’ve provided. During small group instruction, it’s so very important to find what they like, because the more they like it, the more involved they’ll become. Small group instruction use to be a time I dread, but it is now one of my favorite times during the week.
