My Students

I teach 7th and 8th grade English language arts at an awesome school in West Philadelphia. All of my students have big dreams. I try my hardest to create a classroom environment that supports my students' dreams, fosters self-love and mutual respect, pushes them to persevere when academics get hard, and teaches them to think critically about our world!

Even though my students come to me from a variety of challenging home environments, many of them still come to school full of life and ready to learn everyday.

I teach at a Title I school where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students' family income, gender, and race should not keep them from having access to the best education possible! I have created this page in hopes to try to level the playing field by providing my students with more opportunities to succeed both academically and socially.

My Project

Independent reading is key to raising reading levels. Many of my students read below grade level for various reasons and need practice reading texts independently to grow as readers. Having high interest books in the classroom for students to choose from is key to building a love for reading and raising reading levels.

Reading on grade level has a huge impact on the future lives of my students.

Please help me build a classroom library that will support students in becoming better readers and help them to fall in love with reading. Being able to have books that spark student interest will push them to practice reading more. I often tell my students that reading is power, and power is freedom. Your donation will help give my students the freedom to become whoever they want by supporting them as they become stronger readers. Thank you so much for considering my project!
