High Interest Classroom Library!

My students need high interest books that they can borrow from our classroom library like sports, cultural, and history books!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. O'Shea's classroom raised $679

My Students

My hope is to build our classroom library so that my students may have access to books inside and outside of the classroom, allowing them to build reading skills and explore a wider world than their scope!

This will be my second year teaching fourth grade in a high poverty school district.

Over 90% of our students live in poverty. We have students from all over the world: Russia, Vietnam, Somalia, Nepal, Mexico, etc. Last year, two-thirds of my students spoke English as a second language. These students come to school looking for a welcoming and structured environment where they can focus on learning and building relationships. While they all come from a diverse background, they all have the desire to become stronger readers.

My Project

Many of our students are concerned about whether they will have electricity at home or a meal on the table. They do not have shelves or baskets full of books to escape into. My hope is to have a library large enough that students can use books in the classroom as well as borrow books to read at home. Many students do not have access to our community library or are unable to check out books from the school library due to fines. Providing classroom books so that students can continue to build fluency and comprehension skills at home through reading will allow them to continue to grow as readers. I have specifically chosen sports, cultural, high interest books, and books from popular authors, so that there is a book to peak each student's interest.

Donating to this project will provide the opportunity for my students to find their love of reading.

Having a large variety of books means enough for each students to read in the class and at home.
