it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a Language Arts teacher at a middle school in New York City. The population of my school and class is very diverse. Over 95% of my school's population receives free lunch, which is a strong indicator that the overwhelming majority of students come from lower-level income households. This, however, doesn't slow us down. Not one bit.
I have an incredible group of resilient students who LOVE to read but are struggling to find books on their reading level.
As an ELA teacher, I’m constantly trying to find high-interest reading materials for my students, but since many kids have missed so much time in the classroom, this task is now harder than ever. My classroom library needs a variety of books on lower levels that will still push my students to grow as readers after an extended period of time away from the classroom.
My Project
These books will help reignite the love of reading in students who have had some unsettling recent school years. It's more challenging than ever to get students back on track, but with titles like these, they'll be motivated to push themselves even harder than they already are.
Many of my students weren't able to read as much when school was remote, so they fell behind.
Now more than ever they need to get their hands on books that are on their level and exciting to read to temporarily escape from everything else going on around them. These books are exactly what they need.
