My Project
BES is a hidden gem. This is a Title 1 school in East Las Vegas. Despite the challenges these students face economically, their dedication to their education is commendable. Post pandemic state test scores have been improving since the return to in person school.
However, some students are reluctant readers who need a special type of book for them to pick up.
My school recently began an after school sports program. Since the inception, student interest in books about sports have increased. Unfortunately, the average age of our sports books in the library is 19 years old.
In addition, gaming interest has taken off. The students are constantly asking for books about video games or characters. Since many of these requests have come from students who rarely want to check out Library books, getting these books will lead to increased time reading from the reluctant readers.
