Each day my 1st graders come to school all smiles, full of energy, ready to learn! They are clever, inquisitive, and thoughtful 6 and 7 year olds. My students are sponges, ready to soak up as much learning as they possibly can!
They love to read!
They can hardly contain their excitement for Reader's Workshop to begin and when I ring the bell for clean-up there are groans because they do not want to stop reading!
My students come from all different demographics, home life's, and languages. Each student has individual reading strengths and areas for growth, but they all love to read!
My Project
To become a great reader students need high interest and engaging books at their "just right" reading levels! Finding high quality books for emergent readers can be challenging. Through this project I will be able to add high interest, engaging books to our classroom library. Students will be able to self select these high quality texts that match their individual reading levels to read during our reader's workshop time. When students are given the opportunity to select and read books at their just right reading levels their reading strength grows and their life as a reader begins to take off!
