I teach ninth grade Language Arts and Creative Writing. My students are highly-engaged readers, reacting to the texts that we read with audible gasps and laughter. They produce insightful analyses that make me think differently about texts that I have read dozens of times. I love learning from them!
My students are diverse readers, writers, and thinkers.
They bring a variety of viewpoints to the class discussion which enriches our classroom culture and allows us to learn to interact with peers who believe differently. I have loved watching them develop their own opinions as they enter high school and become independent thinkers who question and evaluate ideas.
My Project
The books I have selected are a collection of high-interest books for upper middle and high school students. I want to fill my classroom shelves with these diverse, engaging novels to match my classroom of diverse readers. I want reading to be fun and exciting as my students experience other cultures and worlds.
In my classroom, independent reading time is built into my curriculum.
I strive to create a culture where reading is fun! I want my students to have books to choose from that will excite them and make them into lifelong readers. The selection of books I have chosen reflect that goal. They are popular novels for teens exploring different cultures, time periods, worlds, etc. I am excited for my students to get their hands on them!
