I sometimes use a "flipped classroom" model, in which I record instructional videos for students to use as they pace themselves through the material for the day. They can watch and re-watch videos, pause instruction, and self-direct. However, some students either forget headphones or do not have a pair to bring to school, which limits their ability to use the technology and my ability to move about the room and help students individually. I would also like to use whiteboards to help students think about concepts more visually. I want them to draw what they read, illustrate ideas, and make mind maps. Literature often deals with difficult concepts, so breaking them down into parts and pictures will be beneficial to my students as they become more critical, more conscious readers.
