My Project
I've learned the environment matched with teacher expectations maximizes student achievement. When I left the classroom three years ago, I left all of my best bulletin boards and supplies which help all students thrive. I'm looking to create 8 (yes!) bulletin boards in my classroom, as when I inherited them they were all blank! The boho style allows students to see neutral and natural tones and textures in our interior classroom allowing a laid-back experience. When students feel comfortable, they are more likely to learn. My goal is to create a comfortable space, while also teaching them to believe in themselves and their skills. I do not want my classroom to be sterile and want it to feel welcoming and safe.
I've also included supplies like construction paper and lamination packets to help them work with not only their hands, but the literature we will be conquering together.
Teaching literature to high school seniors is not always easy, however, engaging them with tactile experiences to think about the literature and its relationship to their own world will encourage even deeper thinking tomorrow. Their work will be displayed around our classroom year-round to inspire and celebrate each of their unique talents.
