Have you ever asked a student where a certain paper is only to have them tell you it is "somewhere in my backpack." You know that once it is "somewhere in my backpack" that paper will never be retrieved from that abyss unless it's been put into an organized space in a binder or folder.
Our students are middle school students just out of elementary school and just before high school.
During this time it is crucial for them to learn and maintain organizational skills. They are extremely bright and eager to learn, but their eagerness to learn will only be facilitated by their ability to retain and retrieve information quickly. An organized backpack and binder lead to an organized mind!
My Project
This hole punch will be of use to ALL of the teachers at our school and to ALL of the students that we teach. In order for students to have organized binders, it is crucial for teachers to hole punch their papers beforehand so that new items may go quickly and easily into their binders, rather than sequestering in the pockets or at the bottom of their book bag. This is a high capacity hole punch so it can hole punch an entire set of worksheets (in our classroom, we average 190 copies per worksheet for all 5 periods). Our current hole punches only handle around 20 sheets at a time. When there are multiple worksheets to be handed out in a day, and each one requires 190 copies each, it takes a large amount of time to just hole punch papers one small chunk at a time. All students and all teachers will benefit from this piece of equipment.
This is a chance to make a donation that can affect our entire school rather than one class at a time.
This hole-punch will be placed in our staff room so that all teachers may use it quickly and painlessly and get back to their main job: teaching their students, and students will benefit from the ability to keep organized and clean binders.
