My Students
Greetings from Green Bay, WI (Go, Pack, Go!)! Thank you for taking time to review this request for my Creative Writing students. My students are a beautiful mix of genuine, altruistic, and inquisitive individuals. Creative Writing is run as an elective course that is open to all students in grades 10-12. Within this heterogeneous mixture of grade levels, students are able to offer a variety of life experiences to draw from and share with their peers.
I am consistently in awe of my students and their imaginative creations!
They truly go above and beyond with their projects, and they regularly search for innovative ways to put their own twists on activities we work with in class.
At the end of the school year, so many of my students are under an immense amount of stress, and my hope is to keep their creative spark glowing during the homestretch.
My Project
At the end of the school year, the underclassmen who are in Creative Writing will continue to attend class for almost a week after Seniors graduate. This sometimes adds a hiccup to curriculum planning, but a few days ago I came across information regarding rock hiding. After I saw a post from an old friend on Facebook, I further investigated this growing trend, and I couldn't help but feel inspired! Social media groups have been popping up left and right in relation to rock hiding in communities; not only is this drawing out the creativity in the painters, it is bringing smiles to the "finders."
"Find a rock, paint a rock, hide a rock!" This is the general idea behind this pay it forward-esque movement.
After we look through the rock painting book for ideas, students will use the paints and other paint supplies to create rocks that connect to their interests and our school. We will will use the sealer to protect their paintings from the elements; you never know what you'll have in Wisconsin! When all students have completed their rocks, we will take walks during our class to local parks and establishments to hide the rocks. In order for this to be successful, we need rocks, a variety of acrylic paints, paint markers, paint brushes, sealer, paint pallets, and a container to store materials.
My students are excitedly looking forward to developing and sharing their creations! I, too, am excited to see this foster a relationship between their creativity and their citizenship within our community. This will better help them see the positive effect that sharing creativity and paying it forward can evoke.
We sincerely appreciate any monetary donation you are willing and able to provide this project!
