Hidden Gems!

Help me give my students ingredients to create a value-added agriculture product using strawberries grown on our own campus!

My Project

The specific items we’re requesting - organic fruit powder and jello will empower students to add to the powder we make as we grow our own strawberries, which are a key ingredient in making kohakutou crystal gummies and strawberry gummies.

With these resources, students gain hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture, learning about plant care, soil health, and food production.

Additionally, this project ties into value-added agriculture, teaching students how to turn raw produce into a marketable product, giving them insight into entrepreneurship and agribusiness.

Cultivate Sustainability and Food Security – Students learn to grow strawberries while understanding sustainable farming practices.

Create a Value-Added Agricultural Product – The project introduces students to product development, as they transform homegrown strawberries into kohakutou gummies, adding value to raw produce.

Promote Cultural and Personal Storytelling – The gummies are more than just a sweet treat; they symbolize resilience—how even when things break (like the crystal-like candy), there is beauty and strength in the experience.

Develop Career and Business Skills – Students engage in branding, marketing, and storytelling, preparing them for careers in agriculture, business, and food science.

Foster Mental Health and Community – The act of gardening and creating something meaningful helps students connect with their emotions and develop a sense of belonging.

What Makes Our Students Special:

Our students are hidden gems, much like the strawberries they grow—small but full of potential. Many come from backgrounds where agriculture is a way of life, yet they are now learning to apply innovation and entrepreneurship to traditional farming. They are resilient, creative, and driven to make an impact, turning their experiences into something tangible and meaningful. By working on this project, they are not just growing strawberries; they are growing skills, confidence, and a vision for the future.
