This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hidden figures reveals the untold story about the contributions made by black women mathematicians in the space race. Students will read this novel to not only further their interest in STEM and science, but also to explore issues such as racism and sexism. This will be taught in the PRE-IB Inquiry Skills classroom with the goal of improving students critical thinking, literary analysis and writing. Living in sunny Orlando, Florida, when the novel unit is complete students will be able to take a field trip to the NASA Space Center in Cape Canaveral. Students at my school are predominantly low income Hispanic and black students, so any support that can be given to aid students in their learning journey will truly be appreciated!
