Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach fifth grade in East San José. The majority of my students are English Language Learners, with a passion to learn and grow. Many of the scholars are reading below grade level, and some do not have much access to resources outside of the classroom. However, that does not stop them.
These scholars come to class everyday with a wide range of experiences and stories to share.
My students are resilient and always come to school ready to learn.
My Project
This project was created to help build a more diverse library in our classroom. Often times, students do not hear much about people of color doing extraordinary things throughout history.
I am requesting biographies on several key figures in American History, some of which are often left out of our curriculum.
I am also requesting sets of fiction books to engage my students in reading.
Our classroom has a rotation structure and students have to be able to transition between stations quickly and efficiently. I am requesting the whiteboard clipboards so students can keep their papers organized, while being able to use the whiteboard for practice problems.
