This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a group of special needs junior high students with multiple disabilities and complex communication needs. My students need to be taught life skills, that will one day give them more independence as an adult. My students make snacks each week and sell them to the other students in our school to earn money for trips and special treats during the school year. All of my students enjoy making treat signs that tell how much an item is and announces what treat is coming up. I work in a Title 1 School which means that all of our students come from low-income homes and also recieve free lunch. These students deserve the chance to have every advantage possible in life.
My Project
The poster maker would help us to advertise our weekly prices and specials for our life skills class. My students work in the school concession stand. We have an office area in our classroom to shred, print and make copies for teachers in our school. A poster maker would allow us another service to our school. We use the money to take trips and do things that are fun for our class. I assist in the preparation for real jobs for all of my students so that all of them can become a productive member of our society. I want all of my students to have jobs and independence as an adult.
