We've entered a Common Core world where first expectations and standards have changed. The stakes are high and my kindergarten scholars are expected to not only know their sight words and compose and decompose numbers but also how to do so much more. My wish is to help them throughout the summer.
I teach 32 happy, inquisitive and eager kindergarten students in a community that's not as fortunate as most communities in our urban area.
Due to limited budget issues, some things are just not currently on the school's list of priorities. Though we are in a high poverty area, I continue to have high expectations for learning!
The resources that I'm asking for are not for in the classroom use; they are for my scholars to enrich their knowledge as they prepare for the next step in their academic journey. I'm aware that during the summer months, many students who do not attend a summer academic program and will loose some knowledge previously learned. I would love for my students to have an opportunity to practice and review those skills necessary for first grade at home with their loved ones as the summer rolls by.
Having the Summer Bridge from Kindergarten to First Workbooks will encourage my students to work on every aspect of the curriculum they will be expected to know.
For some, the skills will be a review to keep their minds sharp, and for others, it will be a reteach and practice to help them to better understand those skills so important for their success. Success is the key and that's what my little learners will feel as they continue to learn all summer. So, won't you please help?
