I teach US History and Economics in a large urban public high school with a diverse student body. Many of my students are low income and English language learners.

In order to reach my students I use a variety of activities and media, from movie clips to role-plays to PowerPoint presentations to economic simulations. I have been relying all year on a laptop and an old Digital Projector to show video clips, project the days agenda, demonstrate how to do web research, etc. Students also use the projector to do PowerPoint presentations, an important skill to acquire in preparation for college.

Recently, during the past month our digital projector has been acting up. While students were using it to give their final presentations in Economics class, it began to shut off frequently, disrupting student presentations. Finally, this week during US History, as I was showing my students the President's Inaugural address, the projector called it quits. The light in the LCD went out for the last time. We were all disappointed since the students were fully engaged and felt as though they were able to actually be a part of history. Our school, facing budget cuts, cannot afford any more expensive supplies this year. It was this event that inspired me to reach out to donors.

Your help will ensure that my students are able to continue to enjoy the most up to date and engaging classroom possible. Your contribution will be immediately utilized and affect over 180 students' lives on a daily basis, and help them be better prepared for the 21st Century.
