My Students

Small-town kids with big city dreams. My students live in a low-income, rural area in northeast Oklahoma. Our school has just under 500 students Pre-K through 12th grade. Most of our students receive free or reduced lunch, and have limited resources. My high school juniors are a sharp group of students with unlimited potential.

This particular group of students enjoy a good read, and are still bonded by the many stories we have experienced together - often referring to characters when discussing new literary concepts.

Our school does not own a classroom set of this novel and does not have the resources to purchase a set. The Great Gatsby is the perfect novel to share with my American Literature class.

We need more books! Please help.

My Project

The Great Gatsby is a must-read for high school students. Please help me bring this classic to my classroom. Our school does not have a classroom set of this novel. I plan for our Juniors to engage in a novel study this spring that will culminate in a Gatsby-themed party.

Students will read and analyze the text, discuss characterization, theme and symbolism, complete a final project - then throw a Gatsby-style party to celebrate the end of the novel study.

Please help me continue to instill the love of reading in my students with a classroom set of the novel The Great Gatsby.
