I teach in a low income, ELD (English Language Development) classroom. I truly love the students and their parents and am continually trying to provide ways to better help the children learn important foundation skills. One way that I do this is to have a daily "Morning Message." At the beginning of each day, the children "check in" by answering a question in our Morning Message board. The messages are chosen for specific purposes. First, we use this opportunity to write a greeting in several languages. This simple greeting gives value to each culture's uniqueness. Second, the questions that I put on the board are designed to support our curriculum - a reinforcement or review. Third, by asking each child to sign their name under an answer, we are supporting the individual's place in our class and the value of their opinion. This gets me to my point. We currently have an awkward display set up for our Morning Message. We use large pieces of white paper stapled together and taped to a white board. The paper always falls down, and the height of the white board makes it difficult for the kindergartners to reach. What I need is a real easel display. The ability to relocate the "Morning Message" will make it easy to better discuss the various messages and will help us to connect them to different curriculum subjects by moving it around the room. The children will finally be able to reach the board to sign in! We will also make good use of additional easel size pads of paper. Please consider helping us make life just a bit more convenient.
