Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a Title I School in New Jersey with a diverse student population of 1,236, we wish to provide our students with opportunities in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We would like to implement this coding program as part of our science curriculum in addition to an enrichment academy in grades 6-8.
As an urban school district, funding is an issue.
We would appreciate any support that you could offer regarding funding sources and the next steps that we need to take to implement STEM in our school.
My Project
The requested FlashForge Finder 3D Printers with Cloud, Wi-Fi, USB cable and Flash drive connectivity and HATCHBOX filaments will enable my students to build Vorpal Hexapod robots. The Vorpal Hexapod is a 3D-printed, Bluetooth-controlled, Open Source, low-cost educational robot. It uses the Scratch drag-and-drop programming language developed by MIT (and already used by many schools). It's made from standard Arduino hardware and other open source or commonly available components. The 3D printer will not only build the hexapods but also accessories like nameplates and facial features.
This robot is mesmerizing for adults and kids alike, and draws students into the world of STEM unlike anything else.
As a teacher in a Title One School in a very diverse community, students need access to hands-on interactive materials to help them grow and develop into the future scientists and engineers of the world. The STEM curriculum is essential for the development of critical thinking, creativity, engineering design and problem-solving skills.
