Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Over 86% of my student population are English Language Learners where Spanish is their native language. Our school is 100% free or reduced-price lunch. My classroom consists of 18 eager students who are driven to learn on a daily basis. We believe that school-to-home relationships are evident in order to achieve student success.
This year we are building a stronger reading foundation for bilingual students which encompasses a majority of our classroom population!

My Project
Recently, with the devastation of Hurricane Maria, our school has been receiving an influx of scholars from the island. These students are precious and an added bonus to our classroom community. I am hoping to implement new ways of helping reach them across all content areas, while being sensitive about their current state back home. These resources bring bright, colorful, and a welcoming feeling to our classroom. I would like to transform some of our literacy centers as a "new" class so that my students from Puerto Rico feel as if it is theirs, too. Out with the old and in with the new...with your help, all things are possible!
My students need wobble chairs to help them fidget around in a productive manner while learning.
It helps them hone in on what's important all the while they are moving without distracting others. In addition, our current portable cd players are broken with the tops falling off. We constantly have to tape them which makes it hard for the cds to read the story to the students. Using individual cd players helps them learn on their level without having to share a book that isn't developmentally appropriate for them. What's the purpose of having dingy headphones if they don't work?! My students need optimal headphones that create correct sounds and wont break within the first few weeks of being used.
