My Students

Before you begin teaching, no one prepares you for the magnitude of personalities you’ll encounter in the classroom. Each year brings new personalities which comes with having a greater understanding of why you teach. This year I have been fortunate as I have years before to have a variation of students that make my classroom whole. Words such as thought-provoking, inspiring, self-directed, and inquisitive wouldn’t capture the characteristics in my classroom.

I look at my students like they have keys to a world that only they get to choose who visits.

It has been the highlight of my teaching career each year to experience a new batch of students, all equipped with innovative thinking on a level that as a teacher you must unlock. Once they allow in their world, there’s this magical mental journey that they take you on where you discover ways of looking at things in a way that you’ve never have before. My students are very creative and curious about the world around them. It has been my assignment to expose them to as much as possible.

My Project

We use an array of educational websites and have a computer lab to explore them. We lack funds to purchase headphones for each student. Although, we request them on the school supply list at the beginning of the school year, we rarely receive them. Typically, the teacher is left to either purchase headphones for the classroom or try to manage a variety of computer sound levels. Both options require an ample amount patience from the teacher.

As you can imagine, it can be a huge challenge for students to focus on their learning task while listening to their neighbors’ computer.

This distraction is caused by their lack of accessibility to headphones. These headphones will allow my students to focus on their computer program and aid in their overall learning experience. Most importantly, the use of headphones will encourage my students to learn.
