My Students

My students are excited to come to school each day and to learn from one another. They enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing their knowledge with each other. They enjoy using their critical thinking skills to evaluate new information while integrating the arts to show their learning. They get very excited any time we can use technology in the classroom, and they aren't afraid to try something new.

Jane Goodall once said, "You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.

What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." With this quote in mind, I want to help my students become aware of the impact they are having on the world around them.

My Project

In second grade, one of our units of study is on heroes and leaders. I am requesting a variety of books that will allow my students to learn about people who have made a difference in the world. The series, Leaders Doing Headstands, is a playful way for kids to learn about people like Amelia Earhart, Thomas Edison, and Rosa Parks. The National Geographic readers have fantastic photographs that bring history to life. The You Should Meet series highlights leaders in ballet to computer programming.

The books on leaders and heroes highlight the diversity that makes America a special place.
