This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a group of 67 third graders that come from many different social and economic backgrounds. They are very eager to learn and meet any challenge. They are active and love to interact with each other. If its through holding conversations with each other or writing, they find a way to share. They love to share their experiences with me and their fellow classmates.
Students must always be prepared and organized to be ready for learning in order to succeed.
Some students do not come prepared for class and it takes up valuable class time to get what they need. With the enthusiasm to achieve, my students will be ready for reading and writing.
My Project
My students will be ready for reading and writing by being prepared and organized with all the necessary resources needed. In my class, students will read a variety of genres to increase their fluency, improve their reading stamina, demonstrate their comprehension of text, and respond to text through writing using the R.A.C.E. Strategy.
This project will provide a readiness for my students to be successful in reading and writing.
The materials used from this project will enhance my teaching and improve my students ability to move with ease in my classroom by being ready for learning. The classroom library will be organized by book level using the book bins and labels for students to identify books on their level. I will be able to print leveled passages from ReadWorks.org for students using the printer. This will allow me to chose different text complexity passages for groups of students by level in each of my three classes. The electric stapler will be used as a tool to stay organized by keeping needed papers together. A student will have the job of stapling the passages together. The students also use an Interactive Reading Journal to apply skills taught in class throughout the week. So, materials like glue sticks, tape, and color paper are very much needed to add to their notebooks. During Guided Reading and Writing, the students can use dry erase circles to respond to questions in a small group setting and while sitting on stools instead of regular chairs. The Grouping Pencils will allow the students to be grouped quickly. With this being said, students need to feel a sense of accomplishment by acknowledging something positive about their work. A superhero sticker would be a way to do this. They need to remember "That A Hero Lies In You!"
