Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year we have twenty-two awesome first graders. The first graders that entered my classroom this year come from such diverse backgrounds, making our classroom culture very unique. It truly enriches our class community. We have one student that is new to the USA and is doing a great job with learning a brand new language.

My students bring such awesome and unique characteristics into the class that makes teaching so special to me.

Being able to teach to such a diverse population is rewarding and helps me grow as an educator.

As their teacher, it is my responsibility to teach and tailor my lessons to meet the needs of all types of learners. By doing so, I want to create a classroom environment that everyone can enjoy.

My Project

We are very limited in the supplies for our physical education equipment. Our goal is to get scooper balls and jump ropes for students to enjoy and learn how to keep their eyes on the ball, catch, and jump. This will hopefully help decrease behaviors that arise due to boredom. Additionally, we would like to increase the exercise the kids need during this important time of the day. Getting new equipment will increase their exercise that is so needed and most often skipped. This will also help foster the students’ practice in sharing equipment with their friends, and also the logic that losing is okay, and winning isn’t everything.
