My Students

Here we go Loop Dee Loo, Here we go Loop Dee Li. My fourth grade students and I are looping up to 5th grade together. We are pretty excited about it and hope you will help us to continue to grow.

My twenty-four fourth grade students have many needs.

No two students are alike. Some read well above grade level and some read well below. Even so, they all enjoy learning about the world around them. They have dreams and hopes. We have become a family this year and we are lucky to have the chance to stay together as we take on fifth grade. The majority of these students receive free or reduced priced lunch. Therefore asking parents or guardians to absorb the cost of anything beyond the very basic classroom supplies is out of the question.

My Project

Currently, my classroom library consists of single copies of many well worn paperback books. As we continue to grow our critical thinking skills, students can learn many things from each other. It is my desire to allow students the opportunity to form small groups, read the same book, and hold discussions to foster critical thinking. In order to do this, my library will need to grow. With sets of books like "Wizard of Oz", "The Great Gilly Hopkins", and "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe", students will be challenged beyond their current abilities. These books will provide just the right amount of difficulty to extend the learning without creating frustration. Plus, the ReadWorks website already provides a thorough unit plan to accompany each novel. Capitalizing on the accessibility of those units that are already fully aligned with the Common Core State Standards will allow us to meet the standards while learning to take on responsibilities within a cooperative group.

These books will be a huge asset to our classroom.

High quality lessons are already available, all we need are the books to share. Please consider donating to this project so that my at-risk students can defy the odds and excel at reading.
