From the moment the materials were introduced, there was an immediate sense of excitement and curiosity. Students who are often hesitant to participate quickly became fully engaged, eager to design, build, and express their creativity. We have been using the kits to integrate art, math, and technology, allowing students to explore patterns, symmetry, and problem-solving in a hands-on and meaningful way.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments came during a recent lesson where students created pixel designs representing their favorite book characters. Watching them carefully plan, revise, and proudly share their finished work was powerful. Not only were they practicing critical thinking and fine motor skills, but they were also building confidence and learning to persevere through challenges. The joy on their faces when their designs came together was something truly special.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these kits to expand into more complex designs and even collaborative projects, where they will work together to create larger pixel displays. These experiences are helping them see themselves as creators and problem-solvers, which is invaluable. Your support has made a lasting impact, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunities you have provided our students.","fullyFundedDate":1755309574859,"projectUrl":"project/pixel-me-this/9325970/","projectTitle":"Pixel Me This","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Elkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3866586_orig.jpg?crop=1821,1821,x0,y388&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1571246401244","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3866586"},{"teacherId":3866586,"projectId":9249151,"letterContent":"The Emmie and Friends graphic novel collection has made an incredible impact on my fourth and fifth grade students. While many of our donors already love books, graphic novels like these play a powerful role in teaching literacy skills in a highly engaging way. These texts help students develop visual literacy — the ability to interpret images alongside text — while also strengthening comprehension, sequencing, dialogue tracking, and inference skills. Students learn how facial expressions, panel layout, and color convey mood and meaning, which deepens their understanding of storytelling in ways traditional text alone sometimes cannot.\r\n\r\nReading in our library has become a vibrant, social, and joyful experience. You'll often see students sprawled across flexible seating, reading quietly, then eagerly sharing funny moments or relatable scenes with friends. These books have opened the door for many reluctant readers, making reading feel accessible and less intimidating. Students who once struggled to finish a chapter book are now confidently completing entire graphic novels and asking for the next title in the series.\r\n\r\nSome of the most meaningful impact has been with students who are still building reading confidence. I have several readers who visit the library weekly just to check for Emmie and Friends. They see themselves in the characters' friendships, challenges, and school experiences, which makes reading feel personal and validating. Watching these students laugh, connect, and proudly carry their books back to class has been one of the greatest successes of this project. Your generosity has not only put books into their hands — it has helped grow readers.","fullyFundedDate":1754585760559,"projectUrl":"project/emmie-friends/9249151/","projectTitle":"Emmie & Friends","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Elkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3866586_orig.jpg?crop=1821,1821,x0,y388&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1571246401244","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3866586"},{"teacherId":108031,"projectId":9383964,"letterContent":"Headphones play an important role in helping students stay focused and engaged during learning. In a busy classroom, there are often many sounds and activities happening at once, which can make it hard for students to concentrate. Headphones help reduce those distractions by creating a more personal learning space. When students can clearly hear their lessons, instructions, or activities without outside noise, they are better able to understand what they are learning and stay on task longer. This increased focus leads to stronger participation, better comprehension, and improved confidence during independent and small-group work.\r\n\r\nTechnology has become a major part of education, and headphones make digital learning more effective for all students. Many reading programs now include audio support, read-aloud features, and interactive books that guide students through stories while building fluency and vocabulary. With headphones, students can listen closely to these online books and follow along at their own pace, which is especially helpful for developing readers and English language learners. They also allow students to use educational websites, online tutorials, and instructional videos without disturbing others, supporting a smooth and productive classroom environment. Whether students are practicing math facts, exploring science lessons, or completing writing activities, headphones ensure they can hear every detail clearly and fully benefit from the technology being used.\r\n\r\nIn addition to improving focus and supporting digital reading, headphones also help promote independent learning. When students can work quietly and confidently on their own tasks, teachers are able to provide targeted support to small groups or individual learners without interruptions. This improves the overall flow of instruction and helps meet the needs of all students more effectively. Headphones also empower students to take ownership of their learning by allowing them to choose digital resources that match their skill level, interests, and goals. This independence not only strengthens academic skills but also builds responsibility and self-management—important habits that benefit students far beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nWe are truly grateful for your generous donation of headphones to our class. Your support makes a meaningful difference in our students' daily learning experience. Because of your kindness, students are able to focus better, enjoy online reading tools, and take full advantage of the technology that enriches their education. Thank you for investing in their success and helping create a learning environment where every child can thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1758663312941,"projectUrl":"project/hear-to-read-boosting-fluency-through-s/9383964/","projectTitle":"Hear to Read: Boosting Fluency Through Self-Reflection","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cash","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/108031"},{"teacherId":3866586,"projectId":9065945,"letterContent":"When our students first walked into the Media Center and saw the giant LEGO blocks, their faces lit up with excitement and wonder. Many of them rushed over immediately, eager to start building towers taller than themselves, castles with secret doors, and even imaginary vehicles that they could sit in. The energy and joy were contagious, and it was clear that these blocks were going to inspire not just play, but creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nSince then, the giant LEGOs have become a favorite resource for group projects and free exploration. Students have been working together to design structures, test out their engineering ideas, and even create \"challenge builds\" where they solve problems such as building the tallest structure that won't fall over or designing a space large enough for a classmate to fit inside. These activities have encouraged teamwork, communication, and perseverance, all while tying into our STEAM and media literacy goals.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are excited to integrate the blocks into larger project-based lessons. For example, in an upcoming unit, students will design and build \"mini cities\" using the LEGOs to represent communities, connecting it to lessons about neighborhoods, problem-solving, and collaboration. These resources are more than just toys—they are tools that open the door to innovation, imagination, and joyful learning. Thanks to your generosity, our students are experiencing hands-on, meaningful learning opportunities every day.","fullyFundedDate":1744032974616,"projectUrl":"project/brilliant-bricks/9065945/","projectTitle":"Brilliant Bricks","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Elkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3866586_orig.jpg?crop=1821,1821,x0,y388&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1571246401244","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3866586"},{"teacherId":4478696,"projectId":9576087,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my project, \"Creating a Calming Corner for Big Feelings.\" Because of your generosity, my students will now have a safe and supportive space to regulate their emotions, practice coping strategies, and return to learning ready and focused.\r\n\r\nYour donation will make a real difference in the daily lives of our students.
