My Students

My 4th grade students come from very diverse backgrounds. Most of them are low-income and many are at-risk. Over 80% of the school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. About one-fourth of my class also gets sent home with a bag of food on the weekends.

My students are very compassionate, creative, and active individuals.

They have a huge passion for helping others. They enjoy group activities and anything that gets them moving around the room. I want to provide them with meaningful, engaging, student-driven learning opportunities.

My Project

My students love working in groups, moving around the room, and choosing where to sit. Currently, my only options for them are sitting on the bare carpet or in traditional desks and chairs. Many students find it difficult to work on the floor with no hard surface on which to write.

These lap desks will allow my children to work anywhere on the floor while providing them a place to do their work.

Because the lap desks are small and easily portable, students could push them together to work in groups or find a quiet spot to work by themselves.
