Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Houston Elementary sits in the heart of Southeast Austin, Texas. Our school strives to meet the needs of a predominantly low socioeconomic community. Because of the high need for academic resources, the Houston teachers look to outside programs to supplement our existing resources.
My students are budding scientists, authors, teachers etc. They could benefit from a fantastic, user-friendly resource such as Time for Kids.
We take our students on field trips to expose them to the world outside our neighborhood, but having current event information on-hand when field trips are not feasible or financially possible, is a great way to bring the outside world into our classroom. This reader would provide my students with a pictoral as well as literary experience into our world that they may not otherwise have.
