Here Comes Literacy

My students need large magnetic letters for group literacy instruction and wet erase markers and write-on/wipe-off puzzle pieces for writing and sentence building.

My Students

I teach at an elementary school in American Fork, Utah. I have twelve first through fifth graders in my small group classroom for children with autism.

My students are expected to work hard each day and they typically meet that expectation.

We have a wide range of capabilities and difficulties that make our classroom fun and interesting. Throughout the school year, we work on the academics of a typical classroom such as math, reading, and writing, in addition, we learn self-help, functional, and social skills.

My Project

The requested two craft cabinets will be used to sort letters and objects alphabetically. This will give my students opportunities to work on tasks independently.

The large Magnetic Letters & Numbers and Categories Flash Cards will be used during math and literacy groups.

During these groups, we will focus on one-to-one correspondence, letter-sound correspondence, rhyming and letter identification. The Write-On/Wipe-Off puzzle pieces and wet erase markers will be used during smaller group instruction. Some groups will work on spelling using these materials and others will work on sentence building.

Having these materials in my classroom will give us more flexibility whether we are working one on one, in small groups or as a class.
