Help me give my students hands-on science with an incubator and document camera! We are going to hatch chickens in our classroom. We will get to see the entire process from beginning of incubation to hatching!

My Students
Our school is committed to implementing and continuing to develop a personalized learning system. This pathway will provide opportunities to maximize the potential of all students based on their needs, abilities, and preferences.
My students can learn how to express their unique identities in a strong literacy-based integrated arts curriculum, while simultaneously developing habits of mind that will help them succeed anywhere, from the playground to the classroom to the workplace ahead of them.
Our school is a FREE public charter school providing an arts enriched education for K-5 students. We are a Title I school - we have a high percentage of low-income families. We offer fine arts classes to all students such as vocal and instrumental music, drama, dance, creative writing, and visual arts.
My Project
Our project will provide hands-on science experiments and activities for our kindergartners! We will be incubating and hatching chicken eggs and documenting the entire process in our scientific journals while using the document camera. We will use the incubator to incubate our farm fresh chicken eggs and view the candling process through a doc cam that will project the images onto the smart board for all to easily view.
The kids get so excited when we candle the eggs and get to see the baby chicks moving inside the eggs!
We learn about temperature and humidity, we learn about life cycles, and we practice patience as we wait 21 days to meet our new babies.
We keep journals throughout the entire process documenting the changes that happen inside the egg. Watching the chick hatch is a priceless experience for all the students and they immediately fall in love with the new babies. The baby chicks get to live on a free range farm where they spend their lives happy and healthy!
