My Students
Our third graders are amazing and they want to change the world. They are from varying backgrounds and have been learning about different cultures and have different beliefs. I always try to include famous women in each culture we study.
We've learned about Malala's strength through moments of pain and challenges.
We've been introduced to our first Latina Judge in the US judiciary committee.
I want my students to be able to identify with books we read and help eliminate the gender gap. We need your support.
My Project
Recently, I looked at my library and realized it wasn't diverse enough. I want my students to be able to relate to the books they read or learn about other cultures.
Our third graders read biographies and I have a lot of books but they are mostly about caucasian men or the same civil rights fighters they read about every year.
A change is long overdue.
Our third graders deserve more than just history. They deserve her stories and their stories. Readers need new books that inspire them and continue to follow in the great footsteps of people from a different gender and culture.
