Every year students write I Am From poems. These poems are opportunities for students to reflect and define what makes them unique and special. My students need a variety of ways to celebrate who they are and develop a caring and accepting community. We have daily meetings and group activities. Students use speaking, listening and writing skills. Art will give students another way to Express themselves. The supplies my project requires are clay sculpting tools, a variety of glazes for skin tones and facial details, clay, and metal x's to place finished pieces in the kiln and keep them from sticking. All students can benefit and participate, especially students learning English. An additional way to encourage social and emotional security is through varied art experiences. This project will be an additional opportunity for students to express themselves by constructing themselves in clay.
